Parliament Follow-up

How to track a recommendation

Last checked: 22 October 2026 · How follow-up works

Start with the committee report and note the recommendation number and wording. Then find the government reply, such as a UK Treasury Minute on GOV.UK 1 or a Treasury Memorandum laid in Uganda's House 2. Check later progress reports 3, implementation committee reports such as Kenya's 4, and Hansard for debates and answers 5,6. Record the outcome with a source and the date checked. If nothing is found, write No public record found as of that date.

Step 1: find the report

Go to the committee's page on the parliament website. The UK Public Accounts Committee page lists inquiries and reports 9.

Copy the recommendation exactly, with its number and the report's title and date. Note whether the committee says the point comes from an audit. If it does, open the audit report and compare the wording.

Step 2: find the government reply

In the UK, check the Treasury Minutes collection for Public Accounts Committee reports 1. For other committees, check the committee's publications. The government has undertaken to reply within two months 10.

In Uganda, look for a Treasury Memorandum laid in the House. On 9 July 2019 a finance minister laid one on resolutions arising from a Public Accounts Committee report, and the Speaker referred it to that committee 2. Note the date and what the reply says about each numbered recommendation.

Step 3: check later progress

The UK Treasury Minutes progress report of June 2026 records the government's progress on Public Accounts Committee recommendations from sessions 2010-12 to 2025-26 3.

Kenya's Committee on Implementation lists reports on the implementation status of House resolutions on committee reports 4. Ghana's Assurance Committee monitors the execution of assurances, promises and undertakings made to Parliament 7.

Step 4: search Hansard

Hansard records what was said in the House. UK Hansard lets users find Commons debates by keyword and date 5. Kenya's Hansard page lists PDF transcripts with links to plenary video 6. The Gambia's Assembly lists Hansard reports among its official documents 8. Search for the report title, the agency and the minister's name.

Step 5: record the outcome

  • Implemented, Partly implemented, Not implemented, No public response or Pending.
  • One source for each outcome, such as a progress report 3, Hansard 5 or an auditor-general follow-up report.
  • The date checked.
  • If no source exists, the words No public record found as of that date.
